A book entitled, ‘Against the Run of Play’, written by former presidential spokesperson, Segun Adeniyi would be read at the Ibadan School of Government and Public Policy (ISGPP).
A statement by the ISGPP said the book reading would take place at the premises of ISGPP on May 17.
The statement disclosed that the chairman of the event is Adigun Agbaje, a professor at the University of Ibadan.
Others billed to be at the event are Sikiru Adetona, the Awujale of Ijebu and Ayo Olukotun, a professor.
The discussants are former national commissioner of Independent National Electoral commission (INEC), Lai Olurode, a professor; member, Tribune Editorial Board, Festus Adedayo; Irene Pogoson; and a former head of Service, Oyo State, Soji Eniade.
The book takes an intense look at Nigerian politics at a time when an entrenched political party was defeated in a presidential election after 16 unbroken years in power.
“This book offers the reader a narrative explanation and an unusual insight into the major human and institutional factors that led up to the defeat of President Goodluck Jonathan in 2015,” the ISGPP said in its statement.
“Equally important is the author’s detailed recall of the major political developments that made the outcome inevitable while shaping the very expectations that brought President Buhari to power.
“(Mr) Adeniyi enhances the credibility of his narrative through an extensive set of interviews with living key players in the drama he relates. The hindsight of these key players throws the events into bolder relief and illuminates the road ahead.”
According to the ISGPP program manager, Tobe Nneli, ”it is expected that conversations from the programme will lead to cogent ideas that could be deployed into policy suggestions and engender better political participation and good governance in Nigeria”.
Mr Adeniyi served as spokesperson to late President Umaru Yar’Adua.
