Imo must take it's place as cleanest state, Gov. Ihedioha tasks committee

Imo State Governor, His Excellency, Rt. Hon.Emeka Ihedioha CON, has inaugurated the Committee for the Planning, Sensitization and Implementation of Monthly Clean-up, with the charge to return the state as the cleanest state in the country.

The Governor recalled that between 2008-2010, Imo was not only adjudged the cleanest state in the federation, but also won the prize instituted by the Federal Ministry of Environment for the cleanest state in the country.

He however lamented the ugly turn of the gains, as the state, in the last eight years, ranked the least among the states, a narrative, he said must change.

The Governor, consequently, mandated the committee headed by former Governor of Imo State, Dr. Ikedi Ohakim to return the state to it's glory days of the cleanest state.

While thanking the former Governor for accepting the  challenge. He said, "We chose you because of your proven track record in environmental issues, and as a man who won accolades for our state and indeed under whose tenure the state was adjourned the cleanest in the country. We believe you will bring to bear your experiences and return the state to where it belongs as the cleanest in the country".

Responding on behalf of the committee members, Chief Ohakim thanked Governor Ihedioha for the opportunity and assured that the state will witness environmental revolution in the coming days.

The former governor expressed dismay over the closure of the water channels and man holes in the state by the previous administration, promising that his committee  will set up systems for environmental recovery in the state.

He described as, "a step in the right direction",  the initiative of the Governor to institute prizes for the cleanest local government areas, schools, communities, stressing that it will create competition in the system.
