IwuStill Chairman Imo Covid-19 Committee
Prof. Maurice Iwu,Chairman of the Special Committee set up by Governor Hope Uzodimma of Imo Stateto deal with the ravaging coronavirus as it may concern the state has not resignedhis position.
Governor Uzodimma lastweek inaugurated a 9-man committee comprising tested professionals in the fieldof medicine and related disciplines and named Iwu who has been at the forefrontof research to find a cure for the coronavirus as Chairman.
The Iwu-led committeehas not only demonstrated capacity in dealing with the Covid-19 pandemic as itaffects Imo, but continues to thinker its operations to proactively deal withthe virus and make Imo safe.
Unfortunately, theopposition who do not see anything good in what is good and noble havecontinued to fan the embers of falsehood, all in an attempt to discredit theIwu-led panel and by extension, the government of Imo State led by GovernorUzodimma.
For the avoidance ofdoubt, Prof. Iwu has continued to function in the capacity as Chairman of theImo State Covid-19 Special Committee and said he has not found any reason toresign a job of service to the people of Imo.
According to Prof. Iwu,those who are propagating the lie about his purported resignation are enemiesof the people of Imo State and should be told so.  They delight seeing Imo people suffer andwould be happy to see the State overrun by the coronavirus.
He warned againstinterpretation of the committee’s operation to accommodate the Imo StateCommissioner for health in the scheme of reporting of its activities to thegovernor as an aberration.
Iwu said he hasconfidence in, and trust the capacity of all the members of his committee todeliver on the mandate Governor Uzodimma gave to them.
Recall that GovernorUzodimma, during his state broadcast on Saturday thanked the Prof. Iwu-ledcommittee for being effective in the discharge of their duties.

INDEPENDENT NATIONAL ELECTORAL COMMISSION RELEASES ELECTION CALENDAR FOR 2019 ELECTION YEAR

  The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) on Tuesday, January 9, released the timetable and schedules of activities for the 2019 general elections. INEC Chairman, Prof Mahmood Yakubu, said in Abuja that the dates for National Assembly and Presidential elections remain Feb. 16, 2019; while governorship and State House of Assembly elections, will hold on March 2, 2019.   Yakubu said that the conduct of party primaries including resolution of disputes arising from primaries for national and state elections has been slated for between Aug. 18, 2018 to Oct. 7, 2018. He added that the conduct of parties primaries for the FCT Area Council election has also be scheduled for between Sept. 4 and Oct. 27.   Yakubu said that political campaigns by political parties for Presidential Election and NASS elections would commence on Nov. 18 and end on Jan. 14, 2019; while that of governorship and State Houses of Assembly would start on Dec. 1 and end on Feb. 28, 2019.
