UzodimmaAdvises Imo People to Ignore Fake News on Herdsmen
 
The Governor of Imo State, Senator HopeUzodimma has enjoined Imo people to ignore rumours and fake news being spreadby the opposition and detractors that Fulani Herdsmen are hiding in differentparts of the state.
 
Governor Uzodimma said there was notruth in such rumours and that those spreading them were desperate todestabilise the state.
 
Addressing newsmen on Friday atGovernment House, Owerri after inspection of ongoing roads and drainages inOwerri and its environs, the Governor reiterated that, under his watch, Imo andthe citizens are safe.
 
The Governor who expressed satisfactionwith the level of work being carried out by the various contractors noted thatthe projects, which are now at different stages of completion are being doneaccording to specifications.
 
Governor Uzodimma added that the Stateis using the period of the Covid-19 lockdown to carry out some critical earthworks on the awarded contracts so as to make things easier as soon as thelockdown is completely relaxed.
 
He enjoined Imo people to continue tosupport the policies and programmes of his government, which is determined toprovide good governance that will improve people’s welfare.
 
The ongoing roads inspected include:Federal Secretariat Road along Port Harcourt Road, Owerri; Area A, World Bank, Owerri;Assumpta Cathedral, Port Harcourt Road; Assumpta Yar’Adua Junction, Owerri; OkigweRoad roundabout water collection pit; Old Saint John’s Laboratory Relief MarketRoad, Chukwuma Nwoha to Egbu Road; and Lake Nwaebere to Shoprite Road.
 
The Governor was accompanied on theinspection by the Secretary to the Government of Imo State, Chief Cosmas Iwu; theChief of Staff, Government House, Barr. Nnamdi Anyaehie; HonourableCommissioners for Works, Information & Strategy: Raph Nwosu and DeclanEmelumba, and other government dignitaries.

INDEPENDENT NATIONAL ELECTORAL COMMISSION RELEASES ELECTION CALENDAR FOR 2019 ELECTION YEAR

  The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) on Tuesday, January 9, released the timetable and schedules of activities for the 2019 general elections. INEC Chairman, Prof Mahmood Yakubu, said in Abuja that the dates for National Assembly and Presidential elections remain Feb. 16, 2019; while governorship and State House of Assembly elections, will hold on March 2, 2019.   Yakubu said that the conduct of party primaries including resolution of disputes arising from primaries for national and state elections has been slated for between Aug. 18, 2018 to Oct. 7, 2018. He added that the conduct of parties primaries for the FCT Area Council election has also be scheduled for between Sept. 4 and Oct. 27.   Yakubu said that political campaigns by political parties for Presidential Election and NASS elections would commence on Nov. 18 and end on Jan. 14, 2019; while that of governorship and State Houses of Assembly would start on Dec. 1 and end on Feb. 28, 2019.
