EMEKA IHEDIOHA
A 52 – Member Joint
Transition Committee to work for a hitch-free handover on May 29, 2019 has been
inaugurated by Governor Rochas Okorocha who was represented by the Secretary to
the Government of Imo State and Chairman of the Joint Committee, Eng. Mark
Uchendu.
The inauguration
took place on Friday, May 3, 2019 at the Sam Mbakwe EXCO Chambers, Government
House Owerri which saw all the members of the Joint Transition Committee in
attendance.
In his speech,
Engr. Uchendu said that both members of the Committee from the government’s
side and those from the governor-elect, are all stakeholders in the State and
they would therefore be expected to come up with what would be in the best
interest of the State.
Engr. Uchendu
stated “I sincerely want to thank the governor for providing a veritable
platform for all of us to meet and discuss on the way forward, prepare a
road map for a successful and smooth transition from the incumbent to the
incoming government”.
He added “I urge
all of you to engage in healthy discussions that would move the State forward
and ensure a hitch-free transition”.
The leader of
the governor-elect’s team, Chief Chris Okewulonu said “We have to be objective
in whatever we are going to do for posterity sake. We, as good people of Imo
State, as a matter of fact need to set the pace for other States to follow. We appreciate
the governor for assembling these quality persons to serve as members of this
Committee. We equally thank the governor-elect for appointing these quality men
to serve in this Committee. This is the kind of thing we expect in this State. We
expect peace, harmony and co-existence because what is important is the welfare
of Imo people”.
After the
inauguration, the Joint Committee had their inaugural meeting during which they
agreed to set up what they called a “Small
Technical Committee” of about ten persons to work this weekend to provide
the Joint Committee a road map.
In the 52-Member
Joint Committee, members of the 21-member Transition Committee set up by His
